How To Properly...

Fit a Bra

Finding a perfectly fitting bra can be difficult. Being properly fit for a bra is the most important part of finding the perfect bra. So here are a few tips to finding the perfect, properly fitted bra.

First, you want to find a tape measure that most seamstresses use. It will be very flexible and easy to manipulate. You will place the tape measure around where you normally put the elastic band of your bra. This is the area right under your breast. Be sure to run the tape measure under your breast and all the way around your sides and back. You want to make sure the tape measure is around this area of your body snuggly but not too tight. You want to find this measurement in inches then add 5 to the number. This number will be the first part of your bra size which is your chest size.

Next, you want to find out your cup size. You do this by placing the tape measure around the largest or fullest part of your breast. You also want this measurement inches. Again, be sure to run the tape measure around the fullest part of your breast, sides, and back making sure that the tape measure is snug around your body but not too tight.

Once you have both measurements in inches you can subtract the first number you got from measuring the area under your breast from the second number you got from measuring the fullest part of you breast. If the difference between the two numbers is less than ½ inch then your cup size will be AA. If the difference between the two numbers is ½ inch to 1 inch then your cup size is A. If the difference between the two numbers is 1 inch to 2 inches then your cup size is a B. If the difference between the two numbers is 2 inches to 3inches then your cup size will be a C. Bra sizes will continue in this manner.

When you combine the number you got from the first measurement by measuring your chest size and adding 5 and the letter value you got from the difference between the first and second measurements you come up with your bra size such as 32AA or 42D. Normally the number in the bra size is an even number so if by chance your measurement plus 5 resulted in an odd number you probably want to try the next numerical size up.

Theses are just some preliminary steps to finding a properly fitting bra. The best way to a find a bra that fits properly is to go and try some on or buy a few, now that you know where to start. Not all bras are made alike. Some bras will fit differently than others. Some bras will even feel differently than others. There are many styles, materials, colors, manufacturers, and other variables of bras. So you want to find one that is comfortable for you.
