If you already have a passport that has expired then you need to submit that as well. the following are needed: An ID, a birth certificate, naturalization papers, drivers license or military ID will work. You also need two passport sized photos. many photo shops do this for a small fee. You shouldn't pay more then ten dollars for these pictures. Of course there are fees associated with getting a passport, the fees range from $100 - $120. It depends on if you want just the booklet or a card as well. Next you take all these documents to a certified passport processing facility. Usually they are at post offices but if you have a main passport regional office near by go there, it gets you your passport a lot quicker. When you get to the facility they will ask you for all the documentation. If everything is as it should be then they will put all of this into n envelope and certify it sealed by them. It will ship out and within a few weeks you should have a passport. You have to do all this in person, there is no mail option. The agent at the facility must ensure that you are you.
