How To Properly...
Put On A Condom
This article will detail, step by step, how to safely and correctly put on a condom. Safe sex is very important and a condom will be your first, and best protection against unwanted pregnancy and STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections). They do not provide a 100% protection, but they are recommended for anyone engaging in sexual contact, even if the female partner is on some type of birth control. Most forms of birth control cannot protect against unwanted infections or bacteria, so it is important to take all the necessary precautions.
Before you do anything, it is important to make sure that the condom is viable. If there are tears or holes in the package, or the expiration date has passed by, you will need to get a new one. Using a defective or expired condom does not provide the necessary protection you are going to need. It could tear during intercourse, and you may not notice right away.
Step 1: This really quite simple: get an erection. This may seem like a funny thing to mention but you can't put a condom on a flaccid penis. You must be erect in order for the condom to slide over your penis properly and stay there. Once you've gotten an erection, tear the package at the side (you will see ridges on two sides of the package, like a candy bar), being careful not to damage the condom. Remove it with care.
Step 2: Condoms are only meant to be worn one way, and it is with the roll on the outside. It should roll down your penis easily, if the roll is on the inside, you have it on wrong. Do not wear it inside out. In order to prevent air becoming trapped inside the condom, which could cause it to break during intercourse, pinch the tip with your forefinger and thumb while placing the condom over your penis.
Step 3: Continue pinching the tip of the condom, and gently roll the condom down to the base of your penis. Leave enough room in the tip for your semen once you ejaculate. Make sure it stays on reasonably well before engaging in intercourse. If, during intercourse, it starts to roll up, adjust it before continuing. This is to prevent any unnecessary contact between you and your partner that could result in transmission of STIs or even pregnancy. If the condom comes off completely, throw it out and get a new one before resuming sexual contact.
Step 4: Once you ejaculate, while holding the base of the condom in place, pull your penis out carefully, making sure not to come into direct contact with your partner. Do not try to re-use the condom, as they do not provide adequate protection with repeated uses. Roll the condom off your penis gently, so as not to spill semen. Wrap it in a tissue or some toilet paper, and put it in the trash. Do not under any circumstances flush your used condoms, as they are not bio-degradable, and it's hazardous to the environment.
It's important to take these precautions, because unwanted pregnancies and STIs are no fun, and after all, sex should be fun!
