How To Properly...

Run

I see some people are still searching here for how to run properly, after I removed my initial post because of its lack of better advice. It occurred to me then that someone I've talked to on the internet recenty, Brandon Rowe, has been following his dream of making the olympic team for 8 years and could give me some valuable expert advice.

"For daily runs, I myself usually don't stretch before a run, but stretch afterwards for about 15 minutes. It's not good to stretch cold muscles. I start every run on the slower side and usually end up going faster as I get warmed up. It's not good to start out at a quick pace before your muscles are ready for it. I think a lot of people push too hard on their runs. Some days you'll feel good and it's good to push a bit on those days. But some days you'll feel off and you should just take it real easy on those days. Some days i'll be running 6:15 per mile and some days it will be 7:45 per mile, it just depends on how I feel.

"The run should never feel very strained, if it does just slow down a bit. After the run stretch out the muscles and rehydrate, have a piece of fruit to help your body recover."

Thanks for the advice and best wishes to Brandon Rowe. May your dreams continue fast becoming a reality!
